I Had a Good Thing Going

January 12th, 2009 by eric

Several days of steady blog posting interrupted by the weekend! Somehow I got lazy. Well here’s some catch-up.

  • The job search continues to move forward in a positive manner. More on that later.
  • C and I went snowshoeing near Santiam Pass on Friday and found a new SnoPark that we really like, Maxwell Butte.
  • We got some chores done over the weekend, but mostly we vegged and watched football. Saturday night we went to a great party at Cam’s, and Sunday night watched the golden globes with R & P.

I had my teeth cleaned today which was not a very fun experience, but more fun (I guess) than having some type of serious dental work performed.

I got some work done on DGM Live. This should be the first day of many where I can report that. Working for Y! got in the way of devoting any serious time to DGM Live over the past year and a half. I’m glad that’s come to an end. Part of today’s work involved MySQL performance tuning. For the technically inclined, I’ve got a Spare Cycles post up about playing around with maatkit.

Last week I managed to clear away all the clutter from my desk, but already it has become cluttered again. I suspect demons of some sort. Actually, part of the problem was an exciting delivery of CDs from DGM today, including the re-issues of No Pussyfooting and Evening Star by Fripp and Eno. Evening Star is getting the early treatment because it’s the one I’m least familiar with.

The happy/sad news of the day was hearing that Travis, Rachel, and Crusher will be moving to New York City. Travis is taking employment there with a fantastic up and coming company. Travis had been my manager and co-worker at Right Media and Yahoo!, and a fantastic one at that, for the past two years. We’re sorry to see them go, but excited for them in their new adventures. I ran into them both at the DAC and we had a good chat comparing notes on post-Y! existence.

Enough blogging for the night. Sleep beckons.

Thanks for the mention, Eric. I have been so lucky to work with you and the others on our team for the last few years. We all grew in countless ways together.

Rachel and I have been so lucky to meet such great friends here in Eugene.

Good luck wrapping up your job search. It sounds like things are going well and you’ll have a great time wherever you choose to work.

See you at foos tomorrow. It’s been a month since I last played. I might be a little out of shape.

Thanks for being so sweet, Eric. We know that you will be a success no matter where you end up taking a job. We have really enjoyed Eugene, and we hope we can still keep in touch with you and Chandra via this whole internet thingy. :)

Also, Crusher really appreciates being mentioned on your blog!
